Goodness of God
What does the goodness of God look like in a life of exercised faith? Let’s look at Abraham’s eldest servant who clearly was a man of faith.
Genesis 24:26 KJV And the man bowed down his head, and worshipped the LORD.
This man knew something about the Goodness of God!
Genesis 24:27 KJV And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of my master Abraham, who hath not left destitute my master of his mercy and his truth: I being in the way, the LORD led me to the house of my master's brethren.
Only God can be described as “good” within these terms of mercy, truth, and unfailing leadership.
In Matthew 19 we read of an exchange between Jesus and a rich young man who was lacking such a faith that understood the goodness of God. No surprise, this encounter is told to us three times in the books of Matthew, Mark, and Luke - Goodness x 3. In this exchange, Jesus was either telling the young man that He was a sinner or that He is God. Obviously, it is the latter. In other words, “do you understand what you are saying when you call me good? In doing so, you are rightfully calling me God.”
Mark 10:17 KJV And when he was gone forth into the way, there came one running, and kneeled to him, and asked him, Good Master, what shall I do that I may inherit eternal life?
As you can see, the Goodness of God is of the most critical and essential importance as it pertains to inheriting eternal life.
Mark 10:18 KJV And Jesus said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God.
This is the Gospel my friends. The Goodness of God is Jesus Christ, who came to save us, who are not good.
Psalms 14:3 KJV They are all gone aside, they are all together become filthy: there is none that doeth good, no, not one.
All have fallen short of the goodness of God, except for God. The goodness of God is His glory, not ours.
Romans 3:23 KJV For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;
The Glory of God is that He alone is Good. Without God’s goodness there is no hope.
Romans 2:4 KJV Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
The Good News is that those in Christ are found within the goodness of God.
