Psalms 91:11-12 KJV For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways. They shall bear thee up in their hands, lest thou dash thy foot against a stone.

The devil, also known as the tempter, skillfully twists Scripture to deceive. Having been rebuked by Jesus with the truth that “man shall live by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God” during the first temptation, he audaciously quoted Psalm 91:11-12 in the second, cherry-picking verses to tempt the Lord.
